 Our new Speed the Light project for this year is called Kindles4Cuba. As you may already know, STL was presented with a unique communications project opportunity. The development of Cuba Bible School was facing significant challenges related to printing the courses required for students. Printing costs in country are exorbitant and paper is difficult to acquire. Additionally, due to estimated costs and the challenges of dealing with customs, shipping was not proving to be a viable option either.
Enter Kindle. Someone suggested that it may be possible to put four years of college curriculum on the Amazon Kindle and that it may be easier to get “in country.” Tests were done and it was confirmed that this was possible! This is a wonderful opportunity to provide education for pastors, those called into the ministry, and new believers who will then use their knowledge to spread the Word of God and the Gospel message to A RESTRICTED COUNTRY. Obviously, this has massive evangelism implications. The goal is to reach out into other nations, such as Vietnam, Iraq, and Iran. Each Kindle costs $139 and as a district, our goal is to raise enough Speed the Light money to buy 100 Kindles for this Cuban Bible School. This is something we are going to be promoting over the next few weeks, months, and throughout the year until we raise the money. If each church in our district would commit to purchasing just one Kindle at $139, we would have more than enough to complete our goal!!
